anniversary and munchkin

hello everyone!

on thursday we found out we're having a girl! (i had a feeling :) anyway we set off for our little anniversary trip right after the appointment so we were really able to mull over different girl names.  we had a good laugh over if we named her joni and she'd be joni matchell! can you imagine the grief this girl would get all her life - she'd have to be like "yes like joni mitchell but with an 'a' instead of the 'i'". rolls eyes.

on another note we've been married 5 years now which is nuts to me.  it's only been 5! i realize out of the almost 30 years of my life, only about 8 of them were spent with wes.  sometimes i think, who IS he even?! we become such a daily part of each other that i forget we're two different people sometimes.  is that weird?  it's the coolest feeling in the world.  we're like home to each other. i'm sure someone who's been married way longer would be reading this going "you're telling me". haha

here's a little bit about the weekend.

we spent one night in oakland after hanging out in san francisco for a day and then set off for mendocino/fort bragg. this is how i spent the night in our hotel in oakland. in a chair by the window!

we were given a smoking room - being pregnant i was exceptionally angry about this, but it was really too late and we were too tired to try to fight with travelocity and wait for them to find rooms in other hotels.

fort bragg was a treat though. we stayed at clara's cottages which we tracked using airbnb for the first time and we totally loved it! the pics will probably be boring - we didn't do too much else other than walk along the beach and hang out at the cottage, totally unplugged for the most part.  what a difference it makes.

this is sort of a prego belly shot. sometimes i look more pregnant than others.

the beach was pretty close to our cottage but you had to get through like three different dune "mountain" ranges and though the beach seemed close-by...if felt farther and farther the closer you got.  it was easy to get disoriented so we made land markers....like these two camel humps. or something else ;P

that is definitely a names book - just for a couple ideas.  although it seems like that's all we were consumed with (lol), i promise we talked about a slew of other things and not just baby.  we're NOT those people.  jk!!! probably were. we also revisited how we grew up and high school years and all that.  so fun to remember and laugh about! younger and wilder days  (i would argue i'm wilder now, but...)

that's about it. now we're getting all set up for our little munchkin.  got a new home so we're having to go through stuff and eventually pack up. a little overwhelming but exciting at the same time.

thanks for checking in guys! i really hope posts like this aren't too boring. i know i like them. i do intend to blog more about all things hair intermittently. i just like life in general all the same ;) i'll figure it out.

madres

we spent some relaxing time this sunday at wesley's parents' house celebrating motherhood.

i enjoy our times there because they almost always involve lounging around by the pool in the summertime, or the fireplace when it's cold talking, eating, and laughing.  makes me excited for when the babe comes along - he/she will have some great company.  and if my parents decide to move back to sac, it will be double the company, ha!

come summertime, i eat cherries by the bowlful.  this bowl was full at some point.  gross fact, but i probably ate 80% of the cherries.

i think if you really appreciate someone's motherhood, you should be able to affirm that any day of the year. i will say though it felt pretty special to be congratulated with mothers day for the first time. rookie!

that's all friends!

hair soiree

as promised ;)

the evening turned out much better than i expected.  worth all the stress leading up to it!

every new(er) stylist at my salon is required to put together a compilation of looks (wardrobe, hair, make up - the focus is hair) and showcase them via fashion show.  it's more a celebration of the stylist than a requirement..but you know, preparing for it feels a lot like a senior project. until it's actually fun.  and then the day of - you truly do feel celebrated. i was one of three stylists showing off our looks - anywho's you get the point.

my theme was 90s grunge inspired - very bare eye and dark lip with much contouring and of course hair that hopefully projected the attitude of that era - you know, cool and grungy.  much credit to my sweet make up girl who interpreted my vision perfectly, my buddies at a glass jar who supplied most of the wardrobe, my co-workers who assisted me with executing some of the hair masterpieces, and of course my beautiful models who all did me a major major solid (including my husband!). just look at 'em.

bella, my co-worker's daughter, was one of my last-minute model additions. such a cutie - really pulled the looks together with her tshirt!

great evening - i celebrated with some pals afterwards.  i think like the next day i found out i was pregnant O_o haha.

ok guyz thanks for reading!

still here!

hi guys!

i know it's been a little tiny while (sorry!)....i have a little fashion show update in the works, but in the meantime, just wanted to check in and let ya know - i'm still here!!!

most of you who know me and read my blog (when i update) already know - BUT if you don't, i'm four months preggers - nuts!

just a couple of things that have been happening:

first trimester - nauseous most of the time...but functional!
temporarily lost my appetite for sweet potatoes, quinoa, leafy greens, avocado, coffee....so frustrating!
temporarily lost my inspiration/motivation for blogging or doing anything online, really.

the great thing is i'm into my second trimester and am starting to pick things up again...like coffee (not yet black), avo (at least guac), quinoa (thanks to my buddy olga), and i think leafy greens are slowly on their way back too.  sweet potatoes are still far off, but it's ok ;)

wes and i are pretty pumped.  the thought of having kiddos is terrifying and exhilarating.  terrifying because things won't be the same anymore (no more just the two of us). and we have no clue what we're doing. exhilarating because...we're going to have a  little being with his/her own character and personality - a little reflection of us.  praying we do ok ;)

thanks for checking in!

well said

"I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, a great unique hairstyle/cut is one of the best things a cash-strapped young lady or gentlemen can invest in.

You get to wear it everyday, you can wear it in several different ways, and you can accessorize in a million different ways." -the sartorialist

i couldn't have said it better myself.

changing your hair can do so much for your look.  for one - it can give you a look.  in an interview for glamour magazine (haha i've had some time at work to read), zooey deschanel said that she went through several different looks before she developed her signature heavy bangs and dark hair.  and i must say, it's very "her".  i've been loving these looks as of late:

thanks for stopping by!

prague (and on the way there)

hey guys!

here's the final stretch of my europe documentation: a two-for-one post (if you're still reading the blurb part). we ended up in prague where we split ways with our dear traveling companions so we could do the last leg just the two of us.  on the way there, we stayed the night in bamburg, germany at mike's friends place (his name happened to also be wes!). he and his wife were very hospitable and showed us around the little tiny town. on our way to prague we visited the original disney castle (it's called neuschwanstein castle).  some of the all time best views i've seen in my life. here are some pics.

this is their doggie curbis (sp?) - he was a little firecracker.  sure knew how to pose.

and of course, prague.  i highly recommend it as a europe must.  did not expect it to be so romantic.  once you get away from some of the touristy places (which isn't hard) - you'll find sweet little pockets of alleys/streets with ivy covered pubs and restaurants and just civilian living. good wine and alcohol in general there is so cheap too compared to what we're used to paying. anyway, our routine in prague was exploring during the day, then going "home" to change and go somewhere fancy to eat.

this is the old town square which houses the midevil astronomical clock.  the most intricate clock that will tell you the time, weather, your personality based on your name, etc.  it's nuts.

this is the charles bridge which connects the two different parts of prague (castle and old town)

one of the vendors on the bridge. we hung out near him to wait for the crowd to die down enough to take pictures, and ended up subtly observing him while he works.  he was so focused it was very endearing.

european playgrounds are a pretty good time. definitely not your typical slide, swings and monkey bars.

the way folks begged pictured below was a common sighting. they'd kneel like this for hours on end, some well into the night it was so sad.

we got a surprise hike getting to one of the city central parks which warmed us up. he didn't last long in his tshirt though.

there were these groups of locals that would break out in music and song. it was much fun to watch them sing in szech and have beers i had this weird inexplicable feeling of being left out and nostalgia at the same time. wes had to pry me away from them, lol.

well, that concludes it folks. that was europe. we then flew home.  we both got pretty sick at the tail end of the trip but made the most out of it.  i'm sure i left tons out but this is the gist.  flying home i wrote down every detail of every day that i could remember (including which outfit i wore on which days) just to hold on to as much of it as i can. probably because i had tons of hours to kill, but anywhos.

experience of a lifetime. can't wait to do it again ;)

here's more of the castle and bamberg, and here's prague.

thanks for reading! ta ta
